Course Background |
Companies worldwide are more and more aware of their environmental impacts and are now prepared to institute good practices such as an environmental management system (EMS). An EMS is a continual cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing and improving the actions that an organisation takes to meet its environmental obligations and thus achieve sustainable development. ISO 14001 was developed in response to demand for a single, universally applicable and externally verifiable EMS. Published in 1996 and updated in November 2004, it is a formal standard and auditable protocol, against which an organisation's EMS can be assessed by an independent third party such as SGS. |
